Discipline/Behavior Intervention Committee
Committee Purpose/Mission Statement
- Acknowledges the importance of proactive behavioral measures and consistency across all schools:
- It includes such supports as universal screening measures for behavior, collection and analysis of school-wide discipline data, positive behavior interventions and supports, and acknowledgement of successes.
- We believe that the use of appropriate behavioral interventions for all students starts with a district-wide multi-tiered framework of behavioral supports.These positive strategies and interventions will be used to develop, strengthen, improve or replace targeted behaviors with desired behavioral outcomes, to ensure placement in the least restrictive environment.
- Works collaboratively with parents and families, the community, and other groups
- Promotes reciprocal, open, and regular communication among all stakeholders on issues related to student behavior by implementing best practices for behavior management.
Authority and Responsibilities of the Committee:
- Follows Open Meetings Act requirements
- Reviews reported bullying incidents annually
- Responds to the Board of Education's biennial review of the District's Bullying policy 7:180
- Develops, implements and monitors procedures for using behavioral interventions in accordance with Policy 7:230 Behavior Interventions and Discipline for Students with Disabilities
- Makes recommendations to the Board of Education
- Board members will report to the Board of Education in a public meeting
Communication Process:
- All members may contribute to the agenda
- Agenda will be shared at least one week before meetings
- Minutes will be approved by the committee at the following meeting and posted on the District website
- Highlights of the committee's work will be disseminated to all district constituents through an annual update
Composition and Timeline for meetings:
- Committee will be comprised of:
- Two board members
- Members of the district staff, including administration
- Parents/guardians - may also include persons whose expertise or experience is needed
- Timeline
- Committee will meet at least once annually, more as necessary
